Sustainability Commitment at Hotel Indigo Princes StreetAt Hotel Indigo Edinburgh Princes Street, we are dedicated to sustainability, integrating eco-friendly initiatives to reduce our environmental impact and create a greener future.
Our Sustainability Promise
At Hotel Indigo Edinburgh, we recognise the influence and impact that our business has on the environment and the communities in which we operate. We are committed to sustainability and to minimising our environmental footprint, while enhancing the wellbeing of our guests, employees, and local communities. We are supported in this journey by our sustainability accreditation partner, Green Tourism.
Environmental Initiatives
Committed to creating green spaces, we have added plants throughout the building and at our front entrance, improving air quality and wellbeing. As part of IHG’s involvement in the Carbon Disclosure Project, we have set quantifiable targets to reduce our carbon footprint, reinforcing our commitment to a more sustainable future. We have eliminated all single-use shampoo and toiletry bottles and ensure oils and fats are collected and recycled by Oilco. Our DripDrop umbrellas are available for guests, with a tree planted for every umbrella borrowed, contributing to global reforestation efforts.
Supporting Our Community
We’re committed to giving back to our community through meaningful initiatives. We've planted wildflowers, built a bug hotel, and improved wildlife habitats in our gardens. Our DripDrop umbrellas are in use, and for every umbrella borrowed, we plant a tree.
We actively support local causes, including Team Luke, Macmillan Cancer Support, Children in Need, and Comic Relief. We've hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning, promoted 'Walk & Talk' to reduce isolation, and helped with local litter picks. We also donate to food banks and work with Books for Kids, redistributing used books and serving as a pick-up point.
Our Team
We are committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace while continually improving our business practices and minimising environmental impact. Our team plays a vital role in reducing our footprint by actively participating in sustainability efforts. We monitor business and staff travel, encourage public transport and car-sharing, and have introduced EV vehicles to further reduce emissions.
Sustainability is a priority, with an on-site Sustainability Champion, regular training, and biodiversity training for the whole team. Energy and activity targets are reported monthly to our head office to track progress.
Guest Support
We are committed to ensuring guests have all the information they need for a seamless stay. Our website and front desk provide local transport details, including EV charging points, to help guests navigate the city sustainably. As part of the IHG Green Engage scheme, we prioritise eco-friendly travel options and share updates on local events, festivals, and attractions throughout the year.
We also work closely with Visit Scotland, Forever Edinburgh, Edinburgh Festivals, and Essential Edinburgh to provide up-to-date recommendations, ensuring guests experience the best of the city. Explore our local attractions guide online or speak to our team for personalised suggestions.
Your Feedback
We value guest feedback and input in driving innovative ideas to reduce the environmental impact of our hotel. We encourage our guests to send feedback to each venue, sharing their ideas and suggestions for reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting sustainable practices. By working together with our guests, we can continue to build a sustainability programme that provides guests with the flexibility and freedom to stay in a way that aligns with their values and preferences, while also contributing to a more sustainable future.
